Fruto da experiência lectiva do autor durante bastantes anos e, obviamente, da reflexão e da actividade enquanto investigador, também assenta nalgumas obras de referência citadas e das quais, infelizmente, não há tradução disponível em Portugal (nalguns casos as edições existentes, e nem sempre fáceis de encontrar, são brasileiras). Com efeito, o estudo da Ciência Política, enquanto saber autónomo na Universidade, é recente entre nós e se já começa a haver uma importante bibliografia de produção nacional, esta, normalmente, fruto de teses (de mestrado ou de doutoramento) ou de investigações sobre temas bem delimitados, não é acessível a quem dá os primeiros passos nesse estudo. Em especial no que concerne aos partidos e aos sistemas eleitorais.
